Transcripts in the region surrounding gene 4. Calculated mRNA sizes (in kilobase pairs) were based on the actual sequence between potential TATA box sequences and poly(A) recognition sequences (AATAAA) in the γHV68 genome as analyzed with the Vector <t>NTI</t> version 4.0 Deluxe program (Informax Inc.). RNA molecular size markers, in logarithmic scale, were plotted as a function of distance (in centimeters) from the Northern blots, and measured mRNA sizes were extrapolated from those graphs. For gene 4 and gene 6 transcript sizes, the sizes from the independently probed blots were averaged. The data are from a single experiment.
