Article Snippet: Purpose: To study incidence of local recurrences, postoperative complications and survival, in patients with rectal carcinoma aged 75 years and older, treated with either surgery and pre-operative 5 5 Gy radiotherapy or surgery alone.. Patients and methods: A random sample of patients aged over 75 years with pT2-T3, N0-2, M0 rectal carcinoma diagnosed between 2002 and 2004 in the Netherlands was included, treated with surgery alone (N 1⁄4 296) or surgery in combination with pre-operative radiotherapy (N 1⁄4 346).. Information on local recurrent disease, postoperative complications, ECOG-performance score and comorbidity was gathered from the medical files.

Article Snippet: A number of studies based on conventional ultrasound scanning (CUS) gave contrasting results about the occurrence of early atherosclerosis in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), while no study on early arterial sclerosis in the same patients are available.. Recently, information on early arterial sclerosis can be provided by the integrated backscatter (IBS) analysis which reflects the collagen and calcium content within the vascular wall.. In order to evaluate if atherosis and/or sclerosis of carotid arteries are early features of SLE, we performed carotid CUS and IBS analysis in 16 SLE patients (15 females; aged 37±10 years), free from clinically evident cardiovascular diseases and cardiovascular risk factors, with the only exception of five patients who had arterial hypertension.

Article Title: Factors Affecting Biological Control ofSclerotinia sclerotiorumby Fungal Antagonists
Article Snippet: Studies were conducted to determine the effects of soil moisture (9, 16 or 24% w ⁄w) and temperature (5, 15, 20 or 25 C) on the control of sclerotia of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum by five fungal agents in sterile and natural field soil.. All five biocontrol agents were effective in reducing the survival of sclerotia of S. sclerotiorum in sterile soil under dry (9% moisture) or wet (24% moisture) conditions at 20 C, but only Coniothyrium minitans was effective in natural soil.. Coniothyrium minitans was the most effective in reducing sclerotial viability at the temperature range of 15–25 C. Trichoderma virens was effective against sclerotia of S. sclerotiorum to a lesser extent than C. minitans, and in non-autoclaved soil, it performed best at 25 C. Although Epicoccum purpurascens, Talaromyces flavus and Trichothecium roseum were effective against sclerotia of S. sclerotiorum in some instances, they were less effective than C. minitans and T. virens.

Article Title: Radial TRASE: 2D RF encoding through mechanical rotation and active digital decoupling

    doi: 10.1002/mrm.70104

Figure Lengend Snippet: Depiction of the mechanical rotation system. (A) Image of the connected motor outside the RF shielding. The drive rod connects to the motor and is passed directly through a waveguide to the coils. (B) A Fusion360 model of the coil pair within the magnet. The RF coils ( red and yellow ) rest on the bore tube ( green ), which positions the coils centrally and guides rotation. A three‐dimensional‐printed connection ( gray ) affixes the coils to the drive rod ( blue ) axially and houses their circuit boards.

Article Snippet: Using the computer‐assisted modeling (CAM) program Fusion360 (Autodesk, California, USA), both coils were previously 3D‐printed with the optimized wire pattern modeled directly into their formers.

    Techniques:

Demonstration of sequential slice Radial TRASE imaging. The pulse sequence for each slice consisted of 200‐μs hard pulses, echo train length of 128, echo time of 2000 μs, repetition time of 1000 ms, acquisition window of 1000 μs, four averages, and 201 radial spokes. A uniform B 0 coil within the magnet bore is used to shift the resonance slice due to the static axial gradient. Imaging was performed with a phantom containing nine 8‐mm‐diameter water vials. One vial is positioned centrally, with the remaining eight angled toward the center by 24°. (A) Sequential slice images were obtained for B 0 shift coil currents of −3, −1.5, 0, 1.5, and 3 A. The expected shift between each slice is 10.4 mm with a reconstructed partition thickness of 3.36 mm. From left to right, the ring of vials spreads outward, indicating successful shifting of the resonance slice position by the uniform B 0 coil. (B) Fusion360 model with a different perspective of the imaged vial phantom.
